All About the Charlevoix Circle of Arts...

It has been over 100 years since Charlevoix had an opera house or similar type of cultural facility available and serving our community. Recognizing the need for local cultural engagement, the Charlevoix Circle of Arts opened in June of 2008.

Our mission is to promote the Charlevoix area as a cultural hub by providing community enrichment and support of the arts. This mission is carried out with the cooperation and support of dedicated and passionate community members. We are administered by a hardworking board of directors and advisors, all operating under a set of bylaws adopted in 2008. A large trained docent program keeps our doors open to the public, six days a week, showcasing the rich artistic talents of the region. In less than two years the Charlevoix Circle of Arts has grown to a healthy membership of over 350 individuals and families.

This enables the Charlevoix Circle of Arts to annually present six major visual exhibits, including featured artists, plein air paint outs, an opera, and other performing art events, plus cultural trips. A quarterly schedule is comprised of children’s camps, classes and workshops, varying from photography and ceramics, to oil and watercolor. In the fall of 2009 the Charlevoix Circle of Arts received their 501(c) 3 tax status, allowing applications for federal, state and foundation grants, along with tax deductible gifts from our wonderful supporters. We also provide children in our school systems with hands on cultural experiences. Thousands have enjoyed the pleasure of our exhibits, classes, performances and activities. In 2010 we have planned new visual art programs, expanded the class schedule and many other cultural events. Enjoy your calendar, visit our website, learn something new, and experience the arts... all in the heart of downtown Charlevoix!

East Park’s recent award as one of America’s Best Public Spaces, gives the Charlevoix Circle of Arts the opportunity to contribute to “a downtown which is the cultural center and hub of its community life, that’s filled with music, art, food and fun and offers a historic, waterfront experience.” – Which was suggested by the HyettPalma Blueprint for Charlevoix’s downtown area to enhance economic development and vitality.

The Circle of Arts is actively seeking VOLUNTEERS to assist in maintaining and expanding our programs in the Charlevoix Area.
